On Sept. 11 Spencer posted images of the new memoir and described the feeling of holding the first physical copy. He said Swan Song, the tenth book he has written over thirty years, springs from a brother's desire to pay tribute to Diana.

Recording the audiobook

Spencer spent three days narrating the audiobook and when he finished he felt the text finally matched what he wanted to express. He added that he believed Diana would have approved of his account.
