Buckingham Palace witnessed a solemn musical tribute on Friday, Sept. 11 as the Band of the Coldstream Guards performed a selection of stirring pieces, marking the 25th anniversary of the attacks. Read on to discover the full story!

Music and ceremony

The procession included John Philip Sousa’s “The Thunderer” and “The Stars and Stripes Forever,” plus performances of both the U.S. and U.K. national anthems. The forecourt Guard Change also featured “Hymn to the Fallen” from Saving Private Ryan and the hymn “Amazing Grace.”

Royal attendance

Prince Richard, the Duke of Gloucester, and Birgitte, the Duchess of Gloucester, represented King Charles and took the salute on the palace forecourt alongside U.S. Ambassador to the U.K. Warren Stephens. About 40 invited guests, both British and American, attended the ceremony.
